Polio, the crippling and sometimes fatal disease, is still a very harrowing reality for children in parts of Africa and Asia and threatens children everywhere.
Since 1985, Rotary members worldwide have raised about US$1000 million. This enormous contribution coupled with invaluable hands-on service has helped reduce the annual number of new cases of polio from around 1000 a day to fewer than 1000 a year. The huge army of volunteers mobilized by Rotary International has led to 2 billion children being protected from the disease and 5 million people being spared from disability.
